If I had to describe my school life in one word, it would be home. My name is Jigmet Lanzes, and I’m from Igoo. I joined Druk Padma Karpo School in the year 2004 as a small, curious child in Nursery. In 2016, I completed my Class 10 and stepped out into the world, carrying with me a heart full of memories and a mind shaped by 13 years of learning, love, and life. To many, a school is just a place where lessons are taught and exams are written. But for me, Druk Padma Karpo was and always will be so much more. It was a place where I grew up, where I laughed and cried, succeeded and stumbled, learned and unlearned. It was where I slowly discovered who I truly was.
With each passing day, I learned something new not just from books, but from my teachers, my friends, and even the peaceful silence of the school grounds. I grew, not only as a student, but as a person. At the time, I didn’t fully realize how much I was changing. But when I left my nest and moved to Chandigarh, everything became clear. In a city like Chandigarh, I met people from all walks of life some of the most intelligent, wealthiest, and most talented individuals. And while I admired them, I also realized something was missing in many of them: the simple values of kindness, humility, and empathy. That’s when I truly appreciated what Druk Padma Karpo had instilled in me.
I often remember the words of our Root Guru, His Eminence Kyabje Thuksey Rinpoche, who used to tell us during morning prayers: “You will come across people who are smarter than you, wealthier than you, and more talented than you. But never forget—what the world needs most is not just knowledge, but a good heart. Be a good human being first.”Those words have stayed with me. And now, when someone tells me, “You’re so confident,” I smile—not because I think I know everything, but because I know where I come from. And I proudly say, “I am a student of Druk Padma Karpo School.” My teachers were never just teachers. They were mentors, guides, and protectors who corrected me when I went wrong, supported me when I felt lost, and celebrated even my smallest victories. My friends were like family—we shared dreams, laughter, and memories that I will cherish forever. And my Root Gurus—they gave me the foundation to live a life rooted in purpose and values. If I could ever turn back time, I wouldn’t wish for anything grand. I would simply go back to those ordinary yet unforgettable days—the dusty playgrounds, the vibrant classrooms, the warmth of my teachers, and the innocent laughter of my friends. Because if there’s one thing I truly miss from my past, it is my school—Druk Padma Karpo. Whether I become successful in life or not, one thing is certain: I will always try to give back to the school that gave me everything. There’s no way I could ever repay what I owe—but if Druk Padma Karpo ever needs me, I’ll be there. Always. Just one message away. Because Druk Padma Karpo is not just a school. It is not just a name. It is an emotion. It is home. And I will carry it with me—always.
